I can’t recall what my weekends were like before Netflix. I love it, you love it, and it’s kind of the best thing since sliced bread. But, there are ways to make it even better! Here are a few tips I’ve learned over the years so you, too, can improve your viewing experience.
I saw an article on Mashable earlier this year that outlined all of Netflix’s hidden categories, many of which don’t come up in typical searches. Enjoy the endless possibilities! You could also browse the NetflixBestOf subreddit to determine which new show to binge watch, and add this Chrome extension that adds IMDb ratings and Rotten Tomatoes ratings to almost every title on the site.
Know your keyboard shortcuts: the spacebar will pause and play; hit F for fullscreen, and Esc to get out of it; shift + right arrow will fast forward; shift + left arrow will rewind; up arrow will increase volume, and down arrow will decrease it
Sign up for Netflix’s trial program. Click on Your Account, Test Participation, and toggle. You’ll be one of the first to try new recommendation algorithms and other feature updates before they’re released publicly.
If you want better recs, rate what you watch! If you hated something and don’t rate it, Netflix will think you liked it and recommend more of the same.
Hate yellow subtitles? It’s easy to change the way they look. Adjust the font, color, and size by going to Your Account and clicking on Subtitle Appearance. Yay for hot pink text!
