Why We Love AmazonSmile

We all use Amazon. But have you heard of AmazonSmile? Katie explains how the program donates a portion of your purchase to a charity of your choice! Read on to learn more.

Amazon recently announced the company has donated over $100 million to charitable organizations through its AmazonSmile program. If you’re unfamiliar, AmazonSmile is operated by Amazon and allows you to shop for all of your favorite products on the site while donating 0.5% of your purchase to the charitable organization of your choice. To celebrate this amazing milestone, Amazon has increased its donation rate to 5% when you shop through November 2 (this Friday).

We love this because it’s a fantastic way to help an organization you’re passionate about with just a few clicks (and if you’re anything like us, you shop a lot on Amazon). With the holiday and shopping season fast-approaching, AmazonSmile is another great way to give back.

While there are over one million eligible 501(c)(3) public charitable organizations listed on AmazonSmile, here are a few recommendations to get you started (you can change the charity you wish to donate to at anytime):

ASPCA - Providing effective means for the prevention of cruelty to animals throughout the United States. If you want to get more personal, a lot of local animal shelters and rescue organizations are also a part of AmazonSmile (including the organization where I rescued my pup Archie, K9 Paw Print Rescue).

Leukemia & Lymphoma Society - On a mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

charity: water - Bringing clean and safe drinking water to people in developing nations.

To get started, go to smile.amazon.com and type in the non-profit organization you’d like to donate to or pick from one of Amazon’s spotlight charities on the right side of the page. Eligible products are marked “Eligible for AmazonSmile donation” on their product detail pages.

Now go shop, smile, and donate to those in need. “The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away.” -Pablo Picasso
