All That We Are Thankful For This Year

Every year we celebrate Thanksgiving in many ways: with amazing food (turkey and stuffing!), time spent with friends and family, Turkey Trots, and even some Black Friday shopping. It is also a time of self-reflection, when we can look back on the past year and appreciate everything that surrounds us.

What Cutline Loves About Spring

March 20 officially marked the first day of spring, and while East Coasters got a few inches of snow that day, that doesn’t bring down our excitement for SPRING! From spring flowers to outdoor activities and spring fashion trends, there are a lot of things about spring that we love.

Brooklyn Botanic Garden (Brooklyn, NY): There’s nothing more romantic than being surrounded by pink cherry blossoms, and for New Yorkers, the best place to view these flowers is the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. The park has an amazing collection of cherry blossoms in its Japanese Garden (26 species to be exact!), and it provides the perfect spot for pictures with your friends and loved ones. I can’t wait to finally check it out this year and flood my Instagram feed with pictures of these gorgeous cherry blossoms! -- Hyeri

Hikes in the Bay Area (San Francisco, CA): More sunlight means more time to safely sprint in the great outdoors! I’m an avid hiker, and I take advantage of fogless days by driving out to Point Reyes and Big Sur for epic trails. The best hike I’ve *ever* been on was Alamere Falls last spring, where I went through several different terrains. The trail has narrow forestry, meadows, a beach with a waterfall, and so much more! It’s 150% worth the windy drive it takes to get there. Last weekend, I went to The Pogonip in Santa Cruz and highly recommend it! Can’t wait to see what other hikes the season has in store for me. -- Uzma

Japanese Tea Gardens (Golden Gate Park, SF): Cherry blossoms everywhere! Whenever I need a little peace and relaxation in my life, I head to the Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park to steal some quiet time alone. The running water, stillness of the park, and beautiful surroundings leave me feeling rejuvenated!
-- Darah

The Sunnyvale Farmer’s Market (Sunnyvale, CA): While farmer’s markets are great year-round, I especially love them in the spring, when they have a huge selection of beautiful flowers (especially sunflowers)! I’m a 3-minute walk from the market in downtown Sunnyvale, and every Saturday when the weather is nice and warm, I stroll down to Murphy Ave. to listen to the live music, pick up some fresh vegetables and hummus, occasionally indulge in a fresh crepe with strawberries and nutella, and pick up my weekly bunch of flowers to brighten up the house! -- Mishri

Sundresses and Rompers!: I’m not a fan of the cold weather in the winter, so when spring arrives I’m excited to see the latest fashion trends in stores. Floral patterns, jean jackets and sandals excite me for taking in the spring sunshine. -- Jordan

Outdoor concerts: The nice spring weather makes the lawn seats at my local concert venues (Concord Pavilion and Shoreline Amphitheater) the best! Bring a group of friends, a big blanket and some cold drinks, and you’re destined to have a good time! -- Katie

My backyard: Spring to me means a sunny yard, blooming flowers, happy furry animals basking in the warmer weather, and the chance to enjoy meals outside. My husband and I love using our old charcoal BBQ to make dinner and relax with family, friends or just each other around our table outdoors. -- Esther

Sun! Whenever, wherever, however I can get it -- from reclaiming the color winter took away from me by laying out in Central Park's Sheep Meadow, to taking a walk along the High Line or going for a run along the East River. As New Yorkers know, the sun's a hot commodity (pun intended!) around these parts, and when we feel that transition from the chill in our bones to chillin' outside start to happen, the world is that much sweeter. -- Sarah

Luck be a Cutline Lady: A Love Limerick

There once was a PR company
That asked if it could hire me
To which I said “yes”
“Goodbye” to the rest
And joined a great team very happily

These ladies I call lucky charms
Their PR chops are their strong arms
Generosity abounds
So unique all around
Even three of them grew up on farms!

A place where work feels like play
With support all around, come what may
We get sh$! done
And always have fun
We’re lucky to work here each day

I’m trying to use all my wit
To show you why Cutline’s my fit
It’s so darn contagious
It drives us to greatness
And makes me rhyme in limerick!

It’s National Drink Wine Day!

About two years ago I embarked on a journey to become a wine connoisseur. Although I have not yet reached the status of Wine Taste Master, I have come quite far, and am very fond of a deep red with dinner.

I’m here to announce that today, February 18 is National Drink Wine Day. Now, this is separate from my personal favorite holiday, National Wine Day, which also happens to fall on my Birthday May 25. (Yes, there are two separate wine holidays. I’m assuming there are two holidays based on the two basic colors of wine?)

How do you become a Vino of the Elite, you may ask? Well, let me tell you…

Hello Vino
This app is amazing. Need to know what wine to drink with dinner? Or for your anniversary? This app will guide you through all the vino rules. Oh, and it’s free.

Maybe you’re already a wine tasting professional- then you’ll love this….

Wine Enthusiast Tasting Guide
Created by The Wine Enthusiast Magazine, this app includes reviews and ratings, curated by their editorial team, (aka ACTUAL Wine Taste Masters.) Also, FREE!

Whether you’re a newbie or a pro, you need to get the Coravin System. This nifty device inserts a small needle into your cork, that allows you to pour your wine without actually having to pull the cork out. This keeps your wine fresh by not exposing it to oxygen, and allows you to keep drinking your wine for longer than 3-5 days. (FINALLY!)

Want to start drinking wine? Try my personal favorite 2012 DeLoach Vineyards Heritage Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon.

It’s Turkey Time! Cutliners Are Thankful For…

Ah, Thanksgiving. It’s already one of our favorite times of year, with the cooler weather, adorable sweaters, and holiday-themed coffee drinks. Not to mention the most delicious meal of the year! But Thanksgiving is about so much more than that -- it’s also a reminder to be appreciative of the greater things in life that we’re so, so happy to have. Check out what our Cutliners are most thankful for this year!

Nena - I’m thankful for so many things! Thankful for family and loved ones, thankful for finding an adorable apartment in the Sunset this summer (with windows...SF apartment horror stories are true), thankful for amazing technology that gets me way too excited, and so thankful to be a Cutliner every day!!

Shaq - There are no words to describe how grateful I am for this past year. Not only did I graduate college, but I also was able to speak at my graduation commencement with NBA star Damian Lillard. I then moved to the most amazing city to live with my best friend in the ENTIRE world. I also got a beautiful apartment in a great location in the Mission district and met a very handsome man who makes my days so much cheerier. And to top the cake - I got a job with Cutline and work with most incredible beings in the entire galaxy. 2015 has been a year of blessings and my cup has been overflowing with love and happiness.

Esther - I’m thankful to have a roof over my head, a warm bed and a handy husband who likes to cook and eat all the same delicious foods as me. Not only that, but a husband who makes me more curious in the world and a more thoughtful person. Thanks Kevy. I’m also thankful for my three furry babies who greet me enthusiastically every single day at the front door. And last by not least, I’m so thankful for my coworkers at Cutline who make me excited to come to work every day; Erin, Megan and Darah for believing in and encouraging each of our unique talents; and our amazing partners who make us smarter and better at our jobs.

Megan - In a world where there’s too much violence and hate, I’m thankful for every moment of peace and happiness, and hopeful for more of it.

Mishri - I’m thankful for this beautiful life, and for every teacher, family member, friend and colleague who has helped shape it.

Katie - I’m thankful for my amazing family always supporting me, my loving boyfriend, my adorable dog and all of my new colleagues that welcomed me with open arms when I started at Cutline this year.

Hyeri - I’m thankful for New York City and all of its quirks, like the delayed 6 train, BEC (that’s bacon-egg-cheese for all of you non-New Yorkers!) on a toasted bagel, and the tiny bodega around the corner from my apartment. This city inspires me every day to dream bigger and aim higher, and I’m grateful for all of my loved ones that I can share my dreams with.

Camille - I’m thankful every day for my incredible husband, family and friends, our military, wine, HGTV, double stuffed oreos, bulldogs and of course, my Cutline team! Thank you for creating an awesome culture and allowing us to work with some of the coolest clients in the biz!

Rachel - Among many other things, I’m thankful for random acts of kindness, laughter, my wonderful and off-the-charts supportive family, friends and colleagues, and the exceptionally beautiful city of San Francisco which I’m proud to call home.

Sarah - How much time do I have?! Thankful for the Trader Joe's wine store in Union Square, the short bits of sunshine we're still getting in NYC, Seamless for coming to my rescue on many a lazy night, my cell phone insurance, finding yet another awesome Craigslist roomie who's not cuckoo...! All jokes aside, the recent tragedies in Paris and Beirut are brutal reminders of how fragile the days are, when it's so easy to get caught up in them. I'm grateful to have started a new job this year that's continually rewarding, for my family, who are so forgiving when I forget to call or to let them know how much they mean to me, for my friends who are my support system and forever my second family, and for all the moments we remember to stop and take in all the good in life.

Jordan - I’m thankful for everyone I surround myself with. I’m truly grateful to be connected to such big hearts, gigantic smiles, warm hugs and strong love.

Shelby - I’m thankful for my family, my amazing friends, my dog, my health, good coffee, Instagram, music, living in beautiful San Francisco, working with awesome people, and way too many other things to list out!

Darah - I’m thankful that I have people to love and to feel loved. There is so much to be thankful for, but nothing matters more than the people that make us smile, laugh, hug, dance and love a little more.
“People always say that, when you love someone, nothing in the world matters. But that's not true, is it? You know, and I know, that when you love someone, everything in the world matters a little bit more.” Jodi Picoult

Techy Turkey Time

It’s Thanksgiving week! My family and I are going a little overboard this year with the holiday. We’re having FOUR Thanksgivings! That’s right, four. We might as well call it “Thanksgivingssss.” Four days, four different locations, all classic turkey chow. My fellow Cutliners are fascinated with my plans and are wondering how I’m going to pull off all this cooking and eating. The truth am I. If you’re in my boat with a ton of gatherings, here are a few things to make both our lives easier this year:

Crock-Pot Slow Cooker with WeMo

“Set it, and forget it!” But what if you really forgot?! You threw the food in the pot, timed it to be ready when you get home from the store, but turning it on slipped your mind. Now you can turn on your Crock-Pot, adjust the temperature and adjust the cook time from anywhere using the WeMo app. Sync them up and you’re free to connect and cook from the car! This can be purchased through Belkin or Amazon.

Chef Sleeves for iPhone

I love trying new, interesting recipes I find on the internet. However, when I’ve got my phone in one hand and a spatula in the other, there’s a high risk of getting my screen dirty. The Orange Chef specializes in tech products to spice up your kitchen life, and I’m declaring them geniuses for creating this simple yet necessary need. This can be purchased through Amazon or Brookstone.

I’m not a fan of cold weather at all. (Cutline NYC thinks I’m wimpy for complaining about the SF winter weather.) This is why I get really excited for all the hot, delicious, seasonal drinks to warm up my chilled fingers. Sleepytime vanilla tea, hot apple cider and hot cocoa get me through the frosty days. Sometimes my shivering body gets impatient and frustrated at my tea kettle for taking an eternity to heat up. Never fear, iKettle is here! iKettle can be hooked up over WiFi and will have hot water ready for tasty apple cider right when your guests arrive. This can be purchased through Smarter Store or Amazon.
