“Recent research from Opendoor Technologies Inc., an online company that buys and sells real estate, found that if you buy in the summer months, you’ll pay the peak closing price, compared with any other season.

That timing is unique to the age-restricted segment of the real-estate market, Opendoor said. In other segments of the market, such as starter homes and new construction homes, which tend to fetch the top dollar in the spring, Opendoor found.

“A lot of people are fascinated by the idea of the best season to sell,” said Nick Boniakowski, head of agent partnerships at Opendoor. “55+ communities are unique. There are HOAs and lifestyle features. The curb appeal tends to work well in the summer. The lifestyle features really shine in the summer — you’re seeing the housing in the best light,” Boniakowski said.
