7 Questions With Krista
Krista joined the Cutline Crew earlier this month after spending the last few years writing about lifestyle topics for consumer publications. Want to learn more about Krista? We dare you. Read on!
What will you do at Cutline?
I joined Cutline to work on media and content specifically — a brand new role — so I’ll be working with the team to define, tell, and share inspiring, actionable, and compelling stories for our clients. I’ll help uncover creative and fresh story angles, strengthen our relationships with reporters and journalists, act as an idea machine, and collaborate on all things content.
What's your favorite career experience so far?
Working for myself (as a small business owner and freelance lifestyle writer) for almost four years was a special experience and a period of time I will always cherish. I learned so much about how to be meaningfully productive, think outside of the box, seek opportunities to grow, the true value of time, and more.
Freelance writing presented me with the coolest opportunities too. I was fortunate to interview people I admire (such as Arianna Huffington and Gretchen Rubin) and am grateful to have taken some epic media trips. I got to enjoy a six-country cruise in Europe, visit Jerusalem and float in the Dead Sea, explore the geothermal features in Yellowstone National Park with an expert guide, float in a hot air balloon over Albuquerque, and make a haku lei, or flower crown, with locals in Hawaii — all while meeting incredible journalists from all over.
Who would you most like to swap places with for one day and why?
My sister; we’re so much alike yet so different. It would be fascinating to relive our shared childhood memories as her.
I’d also like to swap places with my boyfriend so I could fully understand his perspective and what it’s like to be in a relationship with me. I’m sure we’d have some game-changing revelations if we could pull this off!
If you didn’t have to sleep, what would you do with the extra time?
Oh gosh, there are so many things. Right now, I’d use the time to watch Game of Thrones. I just started watching season one last week and could use the time to catch up!
I’d also love to have extra hours available for exercising, learning, and helping others. There’s just never enough time in the day, is there?
What is something you think everyone should do at least once in their lives?
Skydive, I did it on a whim a few years ago when a co-worker told me her friend bailed on the jump they planned to do together to celebrate her birthday.
I’ve never experienced anything like the feeling of being strapped to a complete stranger and falling from the sky. You have to give up total control to do it and lean into the fear because letting go (and hurling yourself out of an airplane) is such an unnatural thing to do.
For what it’s worth, the free-fall feels more like a float. It’s shockingly peaceful and literally gives you a brand new perspective.
Tell us about a few of your favorite things… including, of course, your favorite gadget or app!
I’ve loved Pinterest since its early days, scrolling through pictures on Instagram still sparks joy, and I’d be totally bummed out if I had to live without Spotify. People.com is my guilty pleasure and I check it a few times every day. I also look at my Twitter feed regularly to keep a pulse on what’s happening with people, companies, and publications I care about.
Offline, I can’t seem to keep myself away from sweetgreen (the kale chicken caesar with a housemade drink is my go-to). Coastal drives, long walks, design projects, and singing sessions make me happy!
If you could be in the movie of your choice, what movie would you choose and what character would you play?
I’m not sure about a specific movie or character, but I’d love to play someone who does things I would never, ever do in my life. A character who goes on shopping sprees or acts on impulse without having to consider responsibilities first would be a fun persona to tap into.
It would also be cool to play a character who lived in another time, either the past or the future. I’ve always been fascinated by ancient civilizations, so being on a carefully designed set that’s close to what it may have really been like would be an epic experience.
