How the Budget Bytes Blog Transformed My Grocery Bill

When it comes to saving money on your grocery bill, everyone knows meal planning and prep are key. But what if you’re doing both of those things and still can’t get your grocery bill to a reasonable amount? Esther shares what she’s learned—along with her love of the blog Budget Bytes—below.

Woman grocery shopping

This was the struggle I had faced for the better part of my life since getting married, made only more challenging once we added a tiny human to the mix. My husband and I both love food, and he eats like a horse. Eating organic is also very important to us. Every weekend, I would sit down to map out our meals for the week. But even with all my careful prep, our grocery bill still seemed outrageous. I wanted to find a solution.

A couple months ago, I happened to stumble across an amazing website and app called Budget Bytes. The blog was created by a woman named Beth, who was fresh out of college and wanted to find a way to trim her budget without sacrificing eating well. So, Budget Bytes was born. The blog has over 1,000 recipes, and each tells you the estimated cost of the recipe and cost per serving.

As if the website and app weren’t helpful enough, Budget Bytes recently released four meal plans. Each costs $12, and includes a different recipe for each night of the week along with a printable grocery shopping list.

These recipes are DELICIOUS. And, they have completely transformed my weekly meal planning, prep and my grocery bill. Rather than sitting down every Sunday and pouring over recipes, or picking out items ad hoc at the grocery store, I print out the meal plan, review the shopping list, and hit the store. I am constantly amazed by how low my grocery bill is, and best of all, the recipes are so simple to make. I generally only spend about 30 minutes cooking each night, and each recipe makes enough to feed three of us plus leftovers.

To say Budget Bytes has changed my life is not an exaggeration. I am so grateful to Beth for dreaming up these recipes and this budget-transforming solution.
