We Love Podcasts: Our Favorite Podcasts to Diversify Your Playlist
Listening to podcasts is a great way to learn while taking a break from being in front of a screen. The best part – you can always listen while you’re doing something else. You can’t watch a video or read a blog while walking the dog or taking a stroll on your lunch break, but you can listen to a podcast. Whether it’s for entertainment or to get caught up on the latest news, we all have our favorites. And we wanted to share some of our favorites you should consider adding to your playlist.
1. Still Processing
If you haven’t checked out the podcast Still Processing yet, get to listening now! Hosted by New York Times Culture writers, Wesley Morris and Jenna Wortham, it’s a weekly show about culture in all its glory. This includes conversations about television, film, books, and music – but they also dig into challenging conversations about race, identity, and injustice, and how it all relates back to culture. It’s one of the most insightful and popular arts and culture podcasts from the Black perspective. Trust, after listening, you’ll be processing right up to the next episode.
2. It’s Been A Minute
Equally funny as it is informative, It’s Been a Minute marries pop culture and politics. Whether it’s urgent news stories or a chat with a celebrity, both are given equal billing and critique. One of the funniest episodes was a look back at 2020 through the lens of celebrity culture. Hosted by Sam Sanders, each week features interviews with some of today’s thought leaders in culture we should all know. Every Friday, Sam wraps up the week with other news journalists who dish on trending topics from the week. As Sam puts it, he “makes sense of the world through conversation.” We’re happy someone can make sense of what’s going on out there.
3. Why Won’t You Date Me?
Sometimes you don't want to be serious and just need a good laugh! Ever asked yourself: “Why am I single?” Well, you’re not alone. Nicole Byer, the hilarious host of Netflix’s “Nailed It” is the host of this funny podcast. Each week, while attempting to answer questions about herself, she also takes listeners on her personal journey in the dating world and all of its many adventures. Each episode also features guests, comedians, actors, and friends, who spill the beans on their personal relationships. Sometimes it’s the pitfalls of online dating, while others dive into the worst dates ever or how to have a long-distance relationship. Nicole has “nailed it” once again with this one and we are here for it.
Storytelling has always been part of the human experience and quite frankly, a way we can all learn from and connect to each other. Stories allow us all to engage, reflect, and learn from many different perspectives. At Cutline, we often talk about being curious and how that’s important to our line of work — we try to encourage everyone to find things that pique their curiosity daily. Looking to pique your curiosity? Podcasts are the perfect avenue to begin the journey.
